Adoption Laws

Adoption Laws vary from state to state.  Some states are more lenient than others about disclosing sealed records.  This site has a pretty good breakdown of the laws.

New Adoption Laws

-The New Adoption and Children Act of 2002

The first major revision of adoption laws since 1976 includes placing the needs and wellness of the child in the center of the adoption process (typically before it was the adoptive parents needs who were catered to mostly, not in ALL cases), highlights the need to avoid delays in children waiting to be adopted, allows unmarried and same sex couples to apply jointly for adoption, and recognizes that there is a right to request an intermediary between birthfamily and adoptive family in the adoption process.

Today there is a great need for adoption reform in all aspects.  It is apparent that while well meaning, people are getting hurt.  Adoption can be a beautiful choice if its done the right way.  To learn more about adoption reform go to http://www.americanadoptioncongress.org/
